AN unbeaten 70 from opener Angus Bartlett helped Aston Ingham down high-flying Corse & Staunton by seven wickets in their West of England Premier clash on Saturday.
A superb performance in the field saw the visitors dismissed for 162 in 37.2 overs, Mohamed Dilshad (3-29) taking three early wickets as the visitors were reduced to 43-6.
Anthony James also took 4-28 helping mop up the lower order, while Simon Clark, dismissing an opener for a duck, Jack Carpenter and Angus Bartlett shared the rest, with nine wickets catches, Sam Didcote holding three and Edward Bell and Dan Smith two apiece.
In reply, Aston were dealt a blow with the early dismissal of opener Gus Carini-Roberts for a duck (1-1).
But Bartlett and new man James put on 81 for the second wicket before the latter holed out for 38 (82-2).
Dharzekanth Yoganadan also then holed out for a duck (98-3), but next man Jack Carpenter got off the mark and combining with Bartlett scored 36 not out off 32 balls in an unbeaten 67-run partnership to get Aston over the line to 165-3 in the 29th over.
Bartlett's 70 came off 87 balls and included 12 fours, while his partner cracked eight.
It was tighter for the 2nds who squeezed home by one wicket away to Ruardean Hill 1sts.
The hosts scored 217-4 off their 40 overs, Joseph Day, Clyde Breetzke, Jack Davis and Luke Ward sharing the wickets.
Breetzke at No 6 then combined with Day for a match-winning 98-run stand to take them from 89-4 to 187-5, scoring 66 off 52 balls, including two sixes and seven fours.
Day scored 40 following knocks of 33 from Will Green and 20 from skipper Jimmy Davies, and with 20 runs needed with four wickets left, they just made it to 218-9 with two balls left.
The 3rds won by 58 runs at home to Alvington & Woolaston 1sts, reaching 163-8 off 40 overs before dismissing them for 105 in 27 overs.
William King fired 42 not out and Johan Nieuwoudt 38 before Oliver Dennis took 5-26, Oliver Kelsall 2-17 and Mark Mathias 2-3.
And to complete a clean Aston sweep, the 4ths secured a 107-run win away to Alvington 2nds, reaching 212-9 in 40 overs before bowling them out for 105 in 36.2 overs.
Opener Mike Thorn was agonisingly run out just short of a ton on 97, before Alex Cluley with 3-9, Andrew Gardner 2-6, Drew Stafford 2-2 and Emma Bowyer 2-16 ran through the batting.
But Newent 1sts’ run chase at Frampton on Severn fell 28 runs short after dismissing the hosts for 236 in 39.5 overs.
Freddie Fabian took 4-28, Jack Cowles 2-29 and Liam Devries 2-32.
The reply then got bogged down by tight Frampton bowling, and despite 54 from Fabian, 44 from Cowles, 42 from Will Trumper and 23 from Luke Merchant, Newent could only reach 208-6 in their 40 overs.
And Newent Lions proved pussy cats away to Ullenwood Bharat 3rds, all out for 55 before the hosts raced to 56-3 in 16 overs.
Aston host Goodrich in the Forest Hundred Plate and Newent host Cooper’s Edge in a Gloucestershire Evening League match tonight (Wednesday, July 8).
