Gloucestershire County Cricket Club visited Aston Ingham Cricket Club at Stockings Field for a T20 Cricket Match recently. It was a day to remember for all the local players and spectators alike as the villagers, under glorious sunshine, were victorious.

The illustrious Gloucestershire XI, included 10 regular first teasers, plus founder club member, lifelong Glos fan, and local estate agent Steven Gooch, who debuted for the County on his 57th birthday. It proved a very special day for Gooch, as he made a dozen runs and picked up two wickets against his own club mates.

The day started at 11am when Hamish Marshall joined AICC club coaches for an hour’s Kwik cricket with the club’s thriving junior section.

At midday 150 guests sat down to a scrumptious buffet luncheon, followed by some superb stories from special guest, Henry ’Blowers’ Blofeld, from Test Match Special fame.

Blofeld had the audience riveted with his stories of cake, red buses, and of commentating with other legends, Brian Johnston and John Arlott.

The pinnacle of the day was the match that followed when Glos set Aston Ingham just over 200 for victory, which was crashed down in the last over. Aston’s junior club coach Oli Thornley led the way with a magnificent 102, with Ed Buchan supporting Thornley magnificently.

The Club hosted the Lashings World XI in 2013 when Blofeld was also in attendance.

His commentary reverberating around the ground really lit up the day as it had done three years previously, making July 3rd another hugely successful day in the club’s history - a club that boasts a hugely successful junior section, with over 60 members, boys and girls.

There are also two Saturday teams, both near the top of their respective leagues.
