THERE was the sound of leather on willow again at the weekend, as cricket teams warmed up for the new season with friendlies.

Aston Ingham's 1st XI hosted Twyford House on Saturday, but fell to a 112-run loss after visiting skipper Parikshith Sanjev Shetty cracked 100 retired not out off just 47 balls, including 10 sixes and seven fours.

Twyford reached 344-5 off their 50 overs, giving Aston a mountain to climb.

And despite 52 from Josh Henson, 45 from Angus Bartlett, 38 from Tim Dulson, 33 from Sam Maurice and 26 from Oliver Henson, the target was never in reach, with Aston replying with 232-8 off their 50 overs.

Their 2nds won by 62 runs away to Dymock 1sts though, Will Green firing 48, Billy Davies 28 and Edward Bell 26 in their 157-5 off 35 overs, before limiting the hosts to 95-9, Jack Davis taking four wickets and Clyde Breetzke two.

But Newent 1sts were steamrollered by 160 runs at home to Gloucester, after the city side set a 40-over target of 233-8, Paddy Thompson taking three wickets, before skittling the hosts for 73 in just 22.2 overs.

Aston 1sts host Tewkesbury on Saturday, while their 2nds face Newent 1sts away.
