Brockhampton U15 cricketers brought a strong side to Ross, and won by 30 runs in the Herefordshire knock-out cup on Monday, July 2nd.
The visitors were led by Captain Charlie Williams who elected to bat and scored a quick-fire 51 from just 44 deliveries to set Brockhampton on their way to 158 for 7 from the allotted 20 overs. Williams was supported by Tom Skerett and by George Kennedy scoring 25 and 27 respectively.
Ross bowlers were led by Adams, Davies and Parkes, who worked together for the first wicket when Parkes dropped a catch from Davies’ bowling, but quickly threw the ball in to run Aiden Webb out at the non strikers end. Robbie Nixon bowled with pace and accuracy, taking a fine one handed catch in his last over to remove Skerett.
Ethan Lerego’s spin bowled two batsmen with consecutive deliveries, and Rob Nixon caught Charlie Laing from Alex Springer’s second ball. The late wickets, however, were not enough to take back control of the scoreboard, with a few fielding lapses contributing in the hot sun; Brockhampton finishing on 158 for 7.
In reply, Ross struggled to keep up with the run rate required throughout their 20 overs, due to some accurate bowling and deep fielding, restricting Ross to many singles. Adam Davies made a unbeaten 50 from 42 balls, largely in partnership with Ethan Lerego who was caught for 35. Rob Nixon tried to up the rate striking 21 from 15 balls, including a six from the last ball of the match, to get the Ross total to 128 for 3.
Ross, sponsored by Now Storage Ltd, look forward to three home games in eight days in the Herefordshire league, starting Monday against Colwall.
