Ross U15 cricket team maintained their 100% Herefordshire Junior League record with a third victory away to Wormelow on Monday, June 11th.
The Ross squad had been reduced to eight players by exams, birthdays, school games and hayfever, so Wormelow graciously agreed to allow Ross to bat first in beautful mid-summer cricket conditions.
Captain Adam Davies and Mikey Nixon shared an excellent first wicket stand of 80 from twelve overs, Nixon striking one six over mid-on, trying to emulate his watching father, Brian, who had once cleared the A466.
Shortly after Nixon was caught for 29, Davies retired on a chanceless half century which included eight boundries. Ethan Lerego continued to move the scoreboard quickly, amassing 47 from just 31 balls with nine fours, to leave Ross with 141 from twenty overs.
Mindful that Wormelow had overturned Ross in the equivalent fixture last season, and with some large gaps in the field, Ross started their attack with Chloe Tingle and Adam Davies, who pegged Wormelow to 22 runs from seven overs with some accurate bowling.
Wickets then began to fall regularly as all the remaining Ross bowlers struck; Lerego claiming three scalps, with two each for Cale Thurston and Tai Minnie.
Thurston’s line and length improved through his three over spell, while Minnie finished with figures of 1-0-1-2.
Luke Timewell was elated to bowl the Wormelow number seven batsman out, half way through three overs of well directed deliveries. Even Ali Cook, who had joined the game late from winning a school semi-final at Tommies in Gloucester, struck with his first ball.
Ross, leading the league table at the season’s half way point, with three home games to play, are hopeful of rewarding team sponsors Now Storage Ltd with a successful 2018 campaign.
