Ross Golf Club's Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal attracted large support with 128 members taking part with the low handicap golfers recognizing that this event represented their third and final opportunity to qualify in the list of the best 16 golfers, who will now contest on a knock-out basis for the 2013 Men's Club Champion title.

It was pleasing to see the name of 5 handicapper Ross Jenkins at the top of the best gross players list and his gross 72 made him a clear winner from 1 handicapper John Marshall and 5 handicapper Drew Davis who both carded gross 75's. Former Club Champion James Morgan and James Heath, who is part of Tim Hall's Professional team at the Ross Club, enjoyed gross 76's and these were followed by Dave Gardner, Steve Wallbank and Tim Wyatt.

In the nett results final score-sheet, a remarkable 18 holes by 20 handicapper Andrew Webb saw his name at the top of the final score-sheet. After 7 holes, Andrew seemed to be heading for an average result until an eagle 3 at the the Club's 8th hole, which is a par 5, seemed to transform his game. With 4 pars and 2 birdies on his back 9 holes, on which he dropped just 3 shots to par, this was clearly his best round ever in competition, and Andrew's gross 87, net 67 score resulted in a two shots handicap reduction. David Higdon with a nett 69, Geoff Evans and David Webb with nett 70's and Roger Morgan and Dale Gribble with Nett 71's will also be able to look back on this competition with fond memories.

The Club's Seniors Scratch Squad is this year in the care of Team Captain, Doug Duncanson with hopes high of maintaining the outstanding performances witnessed by the squad's 2 previous years' results, when taking part in the North Gloucestershire Annual Seniors Scratch Foursomes Salver. With a bye in the opening round, and a home fixture in the 2nd round this represented a good start.

The Gloucester Golf and Country Club were the visitors, and although Doug and Robin Darling were well beaten in their match, there was some optimism when Gwynne Morgan and Dave Hart squared matters with a convincing Ross win. With the outcome dependent now on the final match, the omens however were far from ideal as Godfrey Farr and the Club's A Team Captain Neil Lancett were 1 down playing the 17th hole and looked to be certain losers. This was until it was discovered that their opponents had to ultimately concede the 17th hole due to the wrong ball being played. In their subsequent consternation the Gloucester pair were unable to recover their composure enabling Godfrey and Neil to win the 18th hole to snatch success from the jaws of defeat and send their Ross team somewhat fortuitously into the 3rd round.
