Hereford FC have moved into second spot in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division, just one point behind Kings Lynn with three games in hand.
The Bulls played Biggleswade Town on Saturday, February 10th, and it took until the 94th minute for Hereford to break the deadlock with a goal from Keyon Reffell from a James Bowen cross.
The 19-year-old Biggleswade goalie Liam Gooch, who had been in fine form during the match, appealed for handball along with Lucas Perry but referee Sarah Garrett awarded the winning strike.
Hereford, without their top scorer John Mills, struggled to get any fluency in the first half but in the 42nd minute Biggleswade’s Gavin Hoyte was penalised for handling in the box. Striker Lance Smith took strike but his spot kick was saved by Gooch.
In the second half Hereford came out more purposeful and had the lions share of the game but were unable to break down a stubborn defence.
Just after the crowd of 2348 was announced, an alleged elbow in Jimmy Oates’ face resulted in Biggleswade’s Connor Hall receiving a straight red from the ref Sarah Garrett.
Hereford continued to attack with relentless pressure and come the 80th minute it looked as though Mike Symons had broken the deadlock with a header that hit the underside of the crossbar. The ball however travelled plumb line down on the line and despite lunges to get the ball over, Liam Gooch yet again gathered the ball up.
Four minutes of injury time came up on the board and in the 94th minute James Bowen crossed from the left, where there were four attacking players, ready to put the ball in.
However the ball brushed Keyon Reffell, wrong footed Gooch and nestled in the left corner of the net. A sigh of relief went around Edgar Street and only a few seconds later the final whistle went.
Their next match is on Saturday February 17th, away at Dunstable.
