Ross Juniors U11s travelled to Withington on Saturday morning and recorded a comfortable 4-0 win.

The visitors weren’t quite on their game from the kick off but Withington seldom threatened throughout the first half. There was an early chance for Eddie following a mazy run and then Niall went close after Bill’s initial shot was well saved.

Sol went close before Eddie was brought down in the area and Jake dispatched the penalty to put Ross ahead. The Withington keeper pulled off three saves in quick succession from Jake, Luca and Eddie to keep Ross from doubling their lead and then made another save when Jake was through on goal.

The visitors finally grabbed a deserved second goal when Blu played Eddie in and he made no mistake. Withington were forced to play on the counter-attack but the defensive duo of Theo and JT dealt with everything and Roo, in the Ross goal, hardly saw any action in the first half.

Ross stretched their lead early in the second half when David played a great through-ball for Niall and he finished well. Blu saw his shot saved after Niall’s cross found him unmarked in the area and then Eddie saw a shot saved too. Withington had their best spell of the game midway through the half but Sol was on hand to make an important clearance and then Roo made a great save low down to his left. Another Withington counter-attack was halted, this time by JT, with a well-timed sliding tackle before Eddie doubled his tally for the day with a neat finish into the far post. The visitors then dominated the play and really should have added a few more goals but Eddie fired over and had a close-range shot saved, and then Niall hit the post and also fired one over. Blu had another shot saved and so did Eddie and then right at the death Withington almost grabbed a consolation goal with a shot that hit the post.

The Harley Finishings man of the match was Blu Jenkins.
