NEWENT Town warmed up for Sunday's UHL Supplementary Challenge Cup final with a 3-0 Hellenic One win at Chipping Sodbury.

A superb cross from Connor Wagstaff was headed home by Dylan Hart for 1-0 after 23 minutes.

And Hart struck again two minutes before the break after a free kick was half-cleared, blasting a 20-yard scissor kick in off the post for 2-0 .

The Sods tried to get back into it in the second period, but Connor Baker put the game to bed with five minutes left, slotting home a Kyle Taylor cross for the third, leaving Newent sixth a place outside the play-offs, but with two games in hands on fifth-placed Cheltenham Saracens.

The Daffs were playing Carterton away last night after the Gazette went to print, before targeting cup silverware on Sunday (March 29) against Shortwood at Hereford Pegasus, kick-off 1pm.

Ruardean Hill Rangers took a big step away from the Gloucestershire County drop zone with a 3-1 home win over top-three Tewkesbury Town, who went in front midway through the first half when Jamie Goodwin slotted a through ball past Hill keeper Aaron Underwood.

But Hill levelled on 39 minutes as Max Telling's cross found Ollie Mason, who nutmegged the Tewkesbury keeper.

It stayed all square until 82 minutes when a great ball in by Hill's Charley Mason was headed in to his own goal by Scott Nicholls.

And the hosts got their third on 85 minutes when a header back to the keeper was intercepted and lobbed in by Kane Fellows.

Elsewhere, a Finlay Morris second half goal secured a 2-1 Gloucestershire Northern 2 mid-table win for Lydbrook at King's Stanley after an Aaron Powell strike.

But table rivals Mitcheldean lost 3-0 at home to Winchcombe Town in their basement battle.

Huntley missed the chance to go back top of North Gloucestershire Premier, held to a 2-2 draw at home by bottom-four Soudley while leaders Blakeney were losing 3-0 at Milkwall, goals from Josh Jeffery and Bradley Taylor securing a point which leaves them two points behind with a game in hand.

Howle Hill in third also won 6-1 at Whitecroft, Conner Watkins firing a brace and Ben Fletcher, Kristian Milnes, Sam Thorne and Jono Wright one apiece, while Longhope won 3-2 at home to Broadwell 2nds thanks to Tom Evans, Dan Morgan and Peter Webb goals.

But Lydbrook 2nds lost 4-3 to two late goals at NG1 promotion rivals Redbrook, Joe Carruthers, Jon Tookey and Ryan Wilks their scorers.

Ruardean Hill 2nds also lost by the same score at Tidenham, Adam Cole, Stu Cornell and Scott Edwards with the consolations.

But neighbours Ruardean United picked up a point drawing 0-0 with visitors Harrow Hill 2nds, while Mitcheldean 2nds drew 1-1 away to Bream 2nds in NG2.

Lydbrook A also beat NG3 title rivals English Bicknor 4-1 away, but Longhope 2nds lost 4-0 away to Westbury 2nds.

Meanwhile, Ross Juniors Women bounced back from defeat at Midwest Counties leaders Evesham with a thumping 9-0 win over Inkberrow Eagles, in their first Sports Ground game since October.
