A huge group of 160 players and spectators from the Ross Juniors Girls and Ladies sides visited Birmingham at the weekend for their end of season trip. Ross entered six teams, from the Under 8s to the Under 14s, in Birmingham City Ladies’ Sister Club Tournament.

In what is a women’s super league scheme, all Premier league clubs, such as Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea, have partnered up with local girls football clubs. Birmingham City now have seven sister clubs, ranging geographically from Shifnal to Tamworth and to Ross-on-Wye.

The football was played at Solihull Moor FC ground and was a great advert for girls football. The under 14s went out in the semi and the 12s managed to draw with their section’s eventual winners.

The under 8 and 10 sections both saw Ross Juniors vs Ross Junior Colts semi-finals, which demonstrates how strong the girls section is. The under 8 final saw Ross beat Tamworth St Johns 3-0. The under 10s also won by the same score over Inkberrow.

Of the four trophies on offer, the Ross girls won two of them.

Following the tournament, the girls and their families watched Birmingham City Ladies beat Sunderland 1-0 to go fourth in the Women’s Super League.

The day finished with a pitch parade; all the Ross players went onto the pitch for their end of season awards. These were presented by Kerys Harrop and Emily Westood of Birmingham City. Paul Flitney, who coaches the girls, told the Ross Gazette:?“It was a great end to a great day for the club.”
