IT was an all-Juniors final in the Herefordshire Women's League’s appropriately-named Ross Invitational Cup final at the Sportsground on Sunday.

The Women's team of teenagers, just days after a gutsy effort in the Herefordshire County cup final at Edgar Street, finally ran out 3-1 victors over the Ladies, but they were all winners in giving a great display for their club.

The game started with the Ladies in their green away kit coming quickly out the blocks at the Women, sponsored by 21Wellbeing, but the defence held firm and dealt with the early pressure.

Then the breakthrough came on 20 minutes for the youngsters, when a Cara Wright pass in to Lauren Creed saw her and Lily Irving play a neat one-two before the former smashed home for 1-0.

Ten minutes later and the lead was doubled from a corner when another one-two between Macy Walker and Hollie Mace saw the latter fire home from 25 yards on an angle.

A quick injection of pace when Nelly Penny found Macy then saw them hit the Ladies on the counter, as a through ball put Holly Thomas in for 3-0.

The Ladies, sponsored byKings Accountancy Ltd and Ross Health and Fitness, didn’t give up though, and got their reward when a Dani Ward shot on the angle flew in to the far corner just before half-time for 3-1.

Ladies again came flying out of the blocks after the restart and Mica Walker, Abbie Fuszard, Isabelle Clarke and Wright had to work hard to keep them at bay with a couple of fine saves from Ruby Wood.

Ross Women wrestled back control with Scarlett Wood helping to control the midfield and linking up with Thomas and Bea Zuka in attack, who were playing some lovely triangles.

Wood went close but her lob bounced the wrong side of the post and then Zuka's effort also went wide.

But Ward then hit the post at the other end which could have made it 3-2, before the game drew to a close.

Juniors posted: "It was an excellent display of football that shows the standard of female football is only getting higher and both teams should be proud of themselves and of the club who are leading the way with others in female football."

The Ladies take on Belmont in the league at the Sportsground on Friday (April 26), kick-off 7pm, while the Women travel to Hay St Mary’s on Sunday (April 28), kick-off 2pm.

The Women also go to Upton Hill to face Welland next Wednesday (May 1), kick-off 7pm.
