August is always a busy month in the summer golfing calendar, as in addition to the weekly Tuesday competitions and interclub matches, there is pressure to complete club knockout matches at Ross Golf Club before Finals Day in September.

The weather cooperated throughout the month and with the ground so dry the balls were running and bouncing beautifully, hence some great scores.

At the beginning of August, the ladies hosted a Friends Day as an alternative to an invitation day.

Lady members had the opportunity to invite up to three guests to play a 4BBB with tea and cake afterwards.

This proved to be very successful with 48 ladies taking part.

Katie Stooke, Denise Laird and visitors came first with 89 points, followed by Nesta Hirst, Joyce Mackley and visitors in second place with 88 points.

Lesley Ross, Sue Johnson and visitors came third with 86 points.

The overall winner of the Mary Beavis Cup over two rounds was Sally Fycun. The runner-up was Hannah Keir.

The Front 9 hole Medal played by 19 ladies, was won by Christine Downs with a score of nett 30. Janet Hyndman came second with a nett 31 and Kay Cotton third with a nett 33.

An Open Invitation 3 ball Ladies Bowmaker was held on August 14 and was well supported by visiting teams who had a very enjoyable day. Many thanks to Katie Stooke and her team of willing helpers who made the day so successful.

The feedback regarding the course and the welcome was very positive.

On August 25, Amanda Marshall, Helen Palmer, Allison Charles Kim Williams, and Ros Ashton represented Ross-on-Wye Golf Club in the GLCGA Kit Kat finals at Henbury Golf club. Congratulations to Ros who was fifth in division one.

On Tuesday, August 23, Ladies Captain Ellie Teasdale held her Away day at Gaudet Luce in Droitwich.

Thirty five ladies took part with a choice of 18 or 9 holes followed by a delicious and very generous afternoon tea.

Each player received a small bottle of Gaudet Luce gin and some chocolates courtesy of the Lady Captain and a fun scratch card competition between the tables raised £28 for the Lady Captains Charity.

Katie Stooke, Allison Charles and Ros Ashton won the best Front 9 competition, and Denise Laird, Linda Gaiderman and Helen Shaw the best Back 9 competition.
