The end of February saw the start of South Herefordshire Golf Club’s season in earnest. The club’s Captain, Allan Haines, organised the first competition of the year, the annual Captains Drive In. It starts a year of competitions, and fundraising for his chosen charity, the County Air Ambulance.

The competition was played in very pleasant conditions, albeit a bit chilly at South Herefordshire Golf Club recently. To help with the fundraising, competitors donated to charity to guess where Allan’s tee shot from the first would end up.

It’s fair to say that quite a few people didn’t have too much faith in his aim, putting their marks in amongst trees, or, barely off the front of the tee but all in good humour. The pressure was on from the watching crowd, and the tee off was taken.

The winner of the day, with a score of 40 points was Pete Wilson, pictured receiving his trophy from the Captain.

South Herefordshire Golf Club Men’s Section now has an incredibly busy couple of months coming up. They have two teams taking part in inter-club competitions. The first of which is the Walker Cup with a first round fixture away to Burghill Golf Club on Sunday, March 20th with further fixtures throughout April and May. The Scratch Team start their participation in the Scratch League on the 17th April at home to the Herefordshire Golf Club, quickly followed by the return fixture away on the 19th April.

Along with additional fundraising competitions, Open competitions and regular club competitions lined up over the comping months, there has never been a better time to take to the course, or even pick up a club for the first time.
