The annual day set aside by Ross Golf Club for members of all sections to support Head Professional Tim Hall and his coaching team in their ’Investment in Young People’ structures and culture witnessed a full house of 30 teams taking part in a best two scores from 4 stableford format.
The early pace setters made the most of the cooler conditions with ’Team Lawrence’ represented by Club Chairman Peter Lawrence, wife Sally, daughter Jessie and Hugh Elliott registering a potential 99 points winning score.
However the day was not just about low scoring and entertainment of sorts on the 7th par 3 hole saw a ’Beat the Pro’ initiative involving Scratch member Niall Powell, a product of the Club’s youth policy.
Ross Juniors Captain Liam Greig and his brother Jay were thankfully among the few successful entrants to beat Niall on the day and win themselves 7 Pro V1 golf balls. Niall was also an inspiration to the Tim Hall School of Golf ’Tigers’ present who were encouraged to participate in the day’s 7th green endeavours and impress their hero. Niall returns to the United States next month to start the next stage of his golfing journey through a 2 year International Competitive Scholarship at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Ultimately the day belonged to an all ladies team to win the event for the second year running, being Sally Fycun, Fiona Lucas, Sarah Forrest and Jen Gladwyn with an exceptional 100 points total. The achievement adds further kudos to the playing strength of ladies golf and its development at the Ross Club where the THSG coaching and improvement programmes have played a vital role.
Appropriately it was the future well-being of the Juniors Section that were the main beneficiaries and Tim Hall said: “During the past few years the growth and focus on developing and improving young people have been achieved largely through our schools and academy programmes. In this respect I am indebted to the support of so many members and in particular the Junior Forum formed 3 years ago which have made this possible.”
Tim also expressed special thanks to raffle experts Julia Wilde and Lisa Griffiths enabling a massive £527 to be added to the Juniors coffers.
