August was a busy month for the ladies of Ross Golf Club with two Open Invitation days, the regular monthly Medal and Stableford competitions and knock out rounds of the club championships to be played.

The Weekend Medal competition on August 11th was won by Mary Smith who continued her winning streak with another impressive score of nett 73, four shots less than Lois Price, who was in second place.

The August Club Stableford competition was played on August 20th along with the Mercia Castle County Cup competition. Hannah Keir won the Stableford with 37 points, closely followed by Rhian McGinley second on count back with 36 points. Rhian was also the silver winner of Mercia Castle cup and Jenny Freel, the bronze winner.

There were some excellent scores in the August medal resulting in drops in handicap for the top five. Nadia Stirling won the competition and came down from 23 to 22, Lorraine Fenner in second came down from 24 to 23, Rhian McGinley in third place came down from 16 to 15, Christine Baldwin, in fourth place came down from 21 to 20 and Phoebe Barber in fifth place came down from 20 to 19.

The Ladies Eclectic is played over 26 holes, two rounds of thirteen with an excellent buffet lunch in between. Seventy six players took part and enjoyed the challenge of trying to improve their scores in the second round. The winners were an outside pair Lesley Moore and Kathy Shiells, with Ross player Jan Armstrong and her partner coming a close second.

There was generous support for the raffle in aid of the lady Captain’s charity, the Multiple Sclerosis Society and a grand total of £360 was made over the two open events.
