The venue for the annual away-day for Ross Golf Club’s men seniors members proved to be an inspired choice by Seniors Captain, David Price.
In ideal weather 60 members crossed the border to spend the day at Cradoc Golf Club and appreciate the delights of the host club’s excellent course conditions and their welcoming hospitality, amidst stunning Brecon Beacons scenery.
On the golf course and playing to a Stableford format there were an eclectic mix of prizes at stake and Alan Mawby managed to feature prominently, with a 37 points total haul which won him the top singles award with Colin Price in second place with 36 points and 2017 Club Captain Kim Hampson claiming the third place spot on count-back with 34 points. Alan was also in the day’s top team performers with John Hartle, Tim Fewell and Paul Dando amassing a 113 points total and there were subsidiary individual prizes for Robin Taylor, Godfrey Farr, Ken Vowles and Danny Gear with David able to present a prize to himself for being nearest to the pin on the 12th green.
There was also recognition for the short game achievements of those who scored a birdie 2 on one of the par 3 holes represented by Seniors Vice Captain, Andy Baldwin, Robin Taylor, David Griffiths, Tim Hartle, Tim Fewell and Geoff Thomas with the specialists Nigel Montague, Danny Gear, Don Hillcoat and Claus Kopp all remarkably getting 2’s on the 7th green while being part of the same team.
There was also due consideration to ’helping others’ and thanks to Paul Dando and Cec Wheatstone and the generosity of all those present, a raffle raised £220 to help the coffers of Ross Club Captain, Robert Tuttiett’s 2018 Charity Fundraising campaign which will ultimately benefit the British Heart Foundation.
