At a well attended AGM of Ross Mens’ Seniors, members duly elected and welcomed David Price as their Seniors Captain, who takes command after a successful season in the care of outgoing Seniors Captain, Steve Martin.
David, a capable 17 handicap golfer, a former member of Forest Hills Golf Club and well known in local rugby circles, will have the benefit of an experienced Seniors Committee during his year in office. Andy Baldwin, another competitive player was elected David’s Seniors Vice Captain.
Scott Thomson as Treasurer will be looking after financials, and administration will continue in the capable hands of Wref Digings as Match Secretary and Patrick Curtis in charge of Information Technology.
With Keith Ray as Secretary and Tim Rigden, Hugh Elliott and Graham Russell again providing specialised support, members can look forward with confidence to another effective year of golfing activities.
Ross Club Captain, Kim Hampson and Vice Captain, Robert Tuttiett were on hand to receive the Winter League Shield from Patrick Curtis for the 2016/17 series of matches, played in Patrick’s name each year.
Jim Millar was rewarded to acknowledge the key part he plays each week in seniors golfing activities and in his address, Steve Martin paid tribute to the many notable trophy wins by men’s seniors in 2017.
The list included the successes of the Ross Seniors Champion Robin Darling, Marsh Allan Trophy winner Mike Archer, Keene Cup winner Colin Price, Layton Cup winner Jeremy Picton-Turbervill and the Ernest Penn Trophy triumph by Robert Tuttiett, who pushed Steve into the runners-up slot that day.
The day’s Greensomes Stableford Winners in the 16 holes event, which preceded the AGM and lunch, were Charles Reeve-Tucker and David Holborow with an outrageous 44 points score.
Steve also spoke of his year’s privilege in having represented a Golf Club which is in such fine fettle, where key roles are in the hands of various teams, notably those of Course Manager, Rob Wilband, Head Professional Tim Hall, Caterers Angela Clephane-Cameron and Patrick Van Holt and Club Secretary Ian Griffiths.
