Two well supported annual events at Ross Golf Club to celebrate the festive period enabled the successful golfing exploits of many of the Club’s men members to be rewarded with some suitable Christmas Fayre.
The Club’s mens stableford competition attracted 88 members and saw Robert Lerigo continue his excellent form and complete a highly effective year which has resulted in his handicap falling from 13 to 10.
His 42 points was the day’s top score, winning him 1st prize and his performance ranked alongside his recent 41 points score which saw him head handicap Division 1 in the Club’s 1st Winter stableford just a few weeks’ previous.
18 year old Niall Powell, who has a two handicap, was runner up with 40 points in a round which included five birdies, and this was just reward for Niall’s committed attitude and dedicated approach to continuously improving himself in his endeavours to secure himself a real future in golf.
Rob and Niall were followed by John Parker and Simon Buck with 39 points, Rod Buchan, Tony Dallow and Danny Gear with 38 points each and 37 pointers; Robin Henderson-Pugh, Nigel Evans and Keith New.
A few days later it was the turn of 64 Ross Seniors to take part in their Xmas Drawn Partners 16 holes better ball stableford competition and Bob Turley and Trevor Flowers with 42 points took home the top prizes.
17 other pairs were able to indulge themselves in the Xmas Fayre prizes on display and included Seniors Vice Captain Steve Martin/Richard Green with 41 points and John Hartle/Terry Savage, David Mason/Richard Escolme and Phil Corcoran/Graham Weare, who all scored 40 points each.
In presenting the prizes, after members enjoyed their Christmas lunch, Seniors Captain David Williams thanked the Club’s Caterers Joanne and Richard Brown and their team for looking after the Seniors so well in 2015.
David also acknowledged the services of Head Professional Tim Hall and his ‘School of Golf’ team where Tim had generously donated two Video Swing Lab lessons as prizes linked to David’s Performance Lab ‘Drive-In’ initiative which raised £221.
The fact that the current leaders of the Seniors Winter Pairs League campaign, David Peacock and Phil Corcoran, should also be the fortunate beneficiaries of the free lessons, was just a minor disappointment on what was an excellent golfing social occasion.
