Two well supported annual events at Ross Golf Club to celebrate the festive period enabled the successful golfing exploits of many of the Club’s men members to be rewarded with some suitable Christmas Fayre.

Despite some highly inclement afternoon weather, the Club’s mens’ stableford Christmas competition attracted 84 members, which resulted in two seniors 14 handicap players, each with 39 points, contesting for the day’s top Christmas Hamper prize.

Despite Phil Bull having eagle and birdie scores on his card, it was Martin Pimlow’s better back nine holes score of 19 points which enabled Ross Club Captain Warren Moore to present Martin with the event’s impressive No 1 prize. Both players see their handicaps reduced to 13.

Martin and Phil were followed by Graham White and Philip Thompson, with 38 points each, and other notable scorers were 2016 Seniors Champion Dave Hart, Colin Price, Paul Warwick, Jonathan McGinley and Tim Fewell with 37 points each.

The 36 pointers, which represented good scoring on the day considering the weather, were Adrian Hope, Adrian Berry, Steve Wallbank, Jeremy Picton-Turberville, Tim Lewis and Dave Higdon.

A few days earlier it had been the turn of 66 Ross Seniors to take part in their Christmas Singles 16 holes stableford competition and to be blessed with ideal winter golfing conditions.

The in-form Colin Price again took centre stage to win more valued Christmas Fayre with an outrageous and highly impressive 41 stableford points score, which was equivalent to Colin playing a massive 11 shots better than his 16 handicap in a round which included two birdies.

Another in-form player, Tim Fewell, with 39 points, was runner-up, followed by Nick Swan and David Crocker with 38 points each, Wref Digings 37 points, Tim Rigden and Seniors Vice Captain David Price 36 points each and Phil Corcoran and Terry Savage with 35 points each.

In presenting the prizes after members enjoyed their Christmas lunch, Seniors Captain Steve Martin thanked the Club’s Caterers Joanne and Richard Brown and their team for again looking after the Seniors so well in 2016.

Steve also acknowledged the services of Head Professional Tim Hall and his ‘School of Golf’ team as two Video Swing-Lab lessons had been generously donated as the prizes linked to Steve’s Performance Lab ‘Drive-In’ initiative which raised £245.

2016 Seniors Captain David Williams and Graham Weare are now able to look forward to their complimentary Pro-Shop lessons in 2017.
