MEN’S Seniors captain Nigel Fullerton has reached the half-way stage of his tenure looking after Ross Golf Club’s 330 male members aged 55 and over, reports KEITH RAY.

An 'End of Summer Season' bash was offered to mainly those who had supported the Seniors squad in completing the section’s annual programme of 28 friendly matches held throughout the season, against other clubs from Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and South Wales.

This included an outstanding 5-3 away success when the squad won its first ever match at the prestigious Championship Celtic Manor Golf Club Resort near Newport, which hosted the 2010 Ryder Cup.

Looked after by Ross Seniors vice-captain Roger Bennett on that day, this was only the third time in the host club's history that a visiting Seniors team had beaten them on their home patch and returned victorious.

Seventy two Seniors supported Nigel's bash which was represented by a shotgun-start four players Texas Scramble medal team competition.

These are always good fun, enabling Nigel to complement the Ross Club's valued 'Community Spirit' ethos, add £500 to his fundraising campaign for the Commonwealth War Graves Commission where he is a dedicated volunteer, and make some awards over an excellent lunch in the lively atmosphere of a full restaurant.

The day's golfing champions with a remarkable net 54 medal score were Bill Lawrence, Phil Andrews, Jon McGinley and Stuart Mair, with their scorecard showing nine birdies and nine pars and each player contributing to the occasion.

The runners-up and also prizewinners with a net 55 medal score were Les Buchanan, Robin Butler, Stuart Mcleod and Richard Tromans.

The Champion Trophy Squad Player of the Year was deservedly awarded to Tim Lewis for being the most consistent winner of his matches in the summer friendly programme.
