For the men seniors members 55+ of the Gorsley-based Ross Golf Club there was considerable relief and expectation in finding that their section’s February competition fell on a perfect winter’s day with plenty of sunshine and without risk of any rain that has been the plague of many outside sporting activities taking place lately in the Wye Valley.

The drawn pairs 16 holes better-ball stableford event with 32 pairings taking part also proved perfect for the Hugh Elliott and Ian McKavney who found the ideal combination in putting together a score-card showing eight pars and a birdie with both Hugh and Ian enjoying an equal share of highly effective play and good fortune. Their outrageous 43 stableford points score from 16 holes was always likely to top the final results table and so it proved.
