Kate Bibby, whose home club is Ross Golf Club, won the prestigious ‘Emirates Ladies Amateur Open’ in Dubai recently.
March 2018 at the Majilis golf course (home of the world famous Desert Classic and Omega Ladies Classic both PGA tour level events) in Dubai, held the event which Kate Bibby, age 14, won.
Kate won by finishing one over par for the tournament, beating her nearest opponent by four strokes. The field consisted of around 60 players from all over the world.
Kate plays off a handicap of +1 and competes on the UAE Ladies Order of merit during the winter months, as she is currently living in Dubai. She has been making great strides over the last few months with several top five finishes on the ladies tour, but this was Kate’s first win at the Ladies level.
Kate said: “I’m really pleased to finally get a win on the Ladies tour and especially being one of the biggest and most prestigious amateur events in the UAE (Dubai). I’ve been working hard over the winter months and I hope to bring some good form when I get back to Ross for the big summer events. I have a lot of European ranking points to defend as I finished 7th at the English Womens Open Matchplay last year, so I’ll need to be playing my best.”
Tim Hall from the Tim Hall School of Golf at Ross Golf Club, who coaches Kate, said: “It’s great to see Kate starting to make great progress on the international scene, and we look forward to welcoming her and her brother Josh back to their home club at Ross for the summer again. Kate will have a busy summer playing all the international ladies and junior events, and Ross Golf Club is such a great place to play and practice with its full range of facilities.”
Kate has been coached by Tim Hall and Oli Leet at the club for the past five to six years each summer that she spends in Ross, and the club has seen many of the Juniors attain local and national success.
