Following the recent Annual General Meeting of the Gorsley based Ross Golf Club, members from all sections were delighted to support their newly elected Club Captain, Robert Tuttiett at his ’Drive-in’ event.
This kick-started Robert’s year and was held in dry weather with a full field of 100 members. Cheered on by his fans and spectators, Robert managed to successfully drive the ball 183 yards from the first tee, which meant that Harry Griffiths was the day’s first prize winner in the Charity fundraising raffle for having the correct yardage against his name.
Involving teams of four with a shotgun start, the Florida Scramble medal team event got underway and provided the ideal opportunity for the day’s winners; represented by Peter Cliffe, Geoff Robinson, Robin Butler and Robin Smith to complete a model round of 60.8.
Another effective team event for Peter Cliffe, who earlier in the month had been part of the winning team in the Club’s Mixed Social Golf competition. The winners were hard pressed by the runners-up, who were Paul Cresswell, David and Graham Higdon and Oliver Prentice with a 61.8 medal score, followed by third place prize-winners Philip Midwinter, Matty Dobbs, Matthew Blythe and Mark Oldale with 62.2.
Clarkson Barclay was grateful that his short game proved to be on song, enabling him to collect the nearest the pin prize for his shot to the 12th green.
At the prize-giving Robert thanked all who had taken part to make this such an enjoyable event enabling £124 to find its way into the coffers to ultimately benefit his Charity throughout his year in office, which is the British Heart Foundation.
