The growing reputation of Ross Golf Club’s Head Professional Tim Hall and his ’School of Golf’ coaching team scaled new heights recently. Overseas-based student, 21 year old George Kalpakas, became the first Cypriot National winner in the 18 year history of the Cyprus Amateur Men’s Open Championships.

George recently completed his first year of a full golf scholarship at Kirkwood College in the Cedar Rapids area in Iowa, USA. Assisted by fellow student the Ross-based scratch player, Niall Powell, who was undertaking his second year at Kirkwood, George was introduced to the holistic approach of ‘continuous improvement’ pioneered by Tim Hall.

Thanks to Facetime and Skype technologies, George carried out a six month series of training programmes online while at Kirkwood. On his return home to Limassol, Cyprus, George joined 58 highly qualified players, several with plus handicaps, for three rounds of the World Amateur Golf ranked event held at the Elea Golf Club. His victory was enthusiastically celebrated by the home crowd at the Trophy presentation.
