On what should have been a glorious mid-summer day, on June 25th, Sally Lawrence held her Lady Captain’s day at Ross Golf Club in extremely inclement weather. Thirty six intrepid lady members, togged up in full wet weather gear headed out onto a very soggy course for a shotgun start in steady rain.
However despite these adverse conditions, a lot of fun was had by all with a number of ‘cheats’ and a piece of string the length of an individual’s handicap, which could be used at the discretion of each player to improve on a poor shot or the lie of the ball.
A very welcome pop up bar manned by Sally and her husband Pete serving Prosecco and fresh fruit was greatly appreciated by everyone on the 16th tee.
The winner of the competition was Sally Fycun with 34 points. Josie Lawrence came a close second with 33 points, followed by June Savage in third place with 30 points and Ellie Teasdale in fourth place with 30 points. Sheila Curtis was nearest the pin on the 7th hole and Pam Duke had the longest drive on the 14th hole.
Fifty ladies played in the The Daily Mail and Club Foursomes Competition on 2nd July and the event was won by Dinah Johnston and Lois price with 37 points. Pat Watkins and Denise Boughey were second with 34 points.
On Friday 5th July the Lady Captains’s away day was held at Droitwich Golf Club in perfect summer sunshine. Thirty six ladies enjoyed playing this beautiful course and the delicious dinner which followed. The winning team was Sally Fycun, Sue Johnson and Lyn Mccoy, followed by Mary Royston, Debbie Woods and June Savage in second place. Erika Atkins won the prize for being nearest the pin.
In keeping with the hot weather, instead of a pop up bar, Lin Bennett popped up around the course to provide very welcome ice creams and helped run the day.See the full story in this week’s edition of the Ross Gazette, or subscribe to our online edition here
