Members of all sections of Ross Golf Club were delighted to support the final event of their Club’s 2018 Annual Programme thanks to their Head Professional Tim Hall and his ‘THSG’ Christmas Scramble competition.
With a full house start sheet of teams of four members each taking part in a mixed Texas scramble medal competition played on the Club’s yellow course there was a real party spirit throughout the day to add to the festive occasion.
This witnessed some remarkable performances and with a team represented by two former Ross Juniors Captains in Sophie Price and Cam Haines and a prospective Juniors Captain in Harry Griffiths with an in-form Matty Dobbs on board as well, an outrageous winning score was expected and so it proved.
The team’s net 47.5 medal score was also an improvement on their previous best 49.7 score when the same squad were runners-up in last year’s equivalent competition. Left in their wake on a 52.5 medal score as runners-up was the team led by their mentor Tim Hall himself joined by Gareth and Andrew Webb and Justin Halfpenny with 3rd place prizes for Dave Dockray, Oliver Prentice, Michael Williams and Nigel Evans with a 52.8 score.
There was also the opportunity to ‘help others’ and members were pleased to be part of the fund-raising on the day which resulted in £90 being donated to the Club’s Juniors Section.
This involved another former Ross Juniors Captain, Niall Powell, now a scratch player who took part in a thoroughly entertaining ‘Beat the Pro’ initiative on the Club’s 12th Pond hole.
As Niall approaches his 22nd birthday he is in fine form as he returns to the United States to complete the first year of a teo year International Competitive Scholarship at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
