ROSS Golf Club’s thriving seniors’ section is continuing to go from strength to strength, with more than 300 members aged 55 and over forming the largest group at the Gorsley-based club.
The section is heading into 2026 with a packed and varied programme of events, overseen by new Seniors Captain Nigel Fullerton, who takes over from Doug Graham following a successful 12-month tenure. Mr Graham was thanked at the recent AGM for his leadership, while long-serving committee members Andrew Baldwin, Colin Price and Joe Hiram were also recognised as they stepped down from their roles.
They are replaced by Andrew McKersie, Phil Andrews and Geoff Cooper, while Kevin Murphy remains in charge of finances. Roger Bennett joins as Vice Captain and Mr Graham continues his involvement as Match Secretary, completing what is described as a strong and experienced committee team.
A highlight of the AGM lunch was the presentation of the Patrick Curtis Winter Seniors Pairs Shield, awarded to 2025 winners Tim Harrison and Paul Burry. Former captain and secretary Patrick Curtis, who introduced the competition more than 20 years ago, was present to see the trophy handed over.
Earlier in the day, members competed in a 16-hole singles Stableford competition, where Stuart McLeod produced an impressive round of 40 points, including two birdies, to take top honours.
In Division One, Charlie Walker and Jamie Glover both scored 35 points, while John Hall and Kevin Murphy also featured among the leading performers. Division Two saw Alistair Ross top the standings with 39 points, ahead of Robert Cooper, Brian Carver and Paul Jaskolski, who each recorded 35.
The section continues to play a central role in club life, combining competitive golf with a strong social atmosphere.
