Junior members of the Gorsley based Ross Golf Club recently look part in their sections inaugural 2019 Opening ‘Order of Merit’ Mixed 18 holes stableford competition which was supported by 9 members. 12 year old Leo Powell, with a 23 handicap, was the day’s top performer with a 47 points total and a highly accomplished performance saw him score 9 pars and a birdie.
The events are clearly assisting all parties in providing more timely handicap adjustment processes. Also in the mix were Matty Dobbs who scored 39 points and Timmy Fycun with 34 points.
In this context Ross Golf Club are delighted to announce that the Order of Merit Junior competitions will be regular features throughout the year thanks to a sizeable donation from the directors of locally based MSC Associates Limited. Other planned initiatives will be coaching days and social events involving parents and new team kit for when juniors represent Ross Club competitively as they did so successfully in 2018 when winning a Golf Foundation ‘Golf Sixes’ league involving Club’s from Brickhampton and Cotswold Hills.
In their decision to provide this funding, MSC Associates Company Directors Mick Merrick, Steve Crooks and Chris Pinches know that they have chosen the ideal partnership. Mick & Steve have been Members at Ross for a few years now and help local companies obtain Research & Development Tax Relief.
Their aims are to encourage fun whilst learning so that young people can not only receive training to enhance their talents but offers a secure environment which develops their personalities as well. The fact that the Ross Club received a donation in 2018 from the Golf Society of Great Britain to recognise their focus on similar ideals speaks for itself and reflected in the massive squad of 145 young golfers currently being developed at the Ross Club. This news is welcomed by everyone, particularly those members of the Juniors Forum, the central team of people who work alongside Head Professional Tim Hall and his team. The current committee is represented by Lois Price (Secretary), Lisa Griffiths (Team Manager), Lesley Ross (Finances) with Julia Wilde, Sally Fycun and 2019 Juniors Captain, Harry Griffiths in supporting roles.
The outcome is also seen as deserved recognition for Head Professional Tim since his appointment in 2012. The influence of his ongoing ‘Tri-golf’ initiatives which were introduced to 23 schools locally across all age levels have been richly rewarded and testimony to Tim’s ‘School of Golf’ structure which includes specialist teaching Professionals Oli Leett and James Dobbs and Pro-Shop Manager Neil Lancett.See the full story in this week’s edition of the Ross Gazette, or subscribe to our online edition here
