Members at Ross Golf Club were delighted to learn that their PGA Trainee Professional Rob Aldred, who joined Head Professional Tim Hall’s School of Golf team in 2014, has secured his place at this year’s prestigious Farmfoods British Par 3 Championships, to be held between July 26th and 29th, at Nailcote Hall near Coventry.
This will be this National Championship’s 83rd year. The event is steeped in history and will again be hosted by Tony Jacklin CBE. Rob will join more than 300 players in the four day long, Sky TV televised event, which includes two celebrity days and two days for the Professionals to compete for prize-monies, totalling 150,000 Euros with 50,000 Euros picked up by the winner.
Rob recently took part in an 80 strong field in an 18 hole event at Nailcote Hall, from which five qualifiers emerged.
Hailing from Belbroughton, near Stourbridge, Rob was able to draw on the experience of having played over 100 times on the Nailcote Hall course as a child where he learned a lot of his short game skills.
With a marvellous two under gross par round, Rob finished in joint third position with four others, which meant a sudden death play-off from which two players would qualify.
With a birdie at the opening play-off hole, Rob was the first to qualify and takes his place with Copt Heath GC Professional, Daanyl Spalding who was the day’s winner.
