The latest major competition in Ross Golf Club’s annual programme for its men members was the Traders Cup, being one of its longest standing and steeped in history, having been initiated by the many and varied traders who once dominated the Wye Valley scene.

The event’s importance and relevance was upgraded two years ago so that the winner now emerges from 36 holes of nett medal play and following the first round, when eight handicapper Danny Gear carded a highly impressive gross 73, nett 65 score, the equivalent of one over gross par, his four shot lead gave Danny a considerable advantage.

This did not deter the second placed Neil Lancett, a ten handicapper who, as in his first round, completed another exceptional back nine holes in his second round with three birdies and finish with a combined nett score of 139, the equivalent of five shots under nett par.

This result gave Neil much deserved Honours Board recognition and a four shot win over his nearest challengers, all with nett 143s, who were Steve Woods, Gareth Webb, Cam Haines and Danny Gear, followed by Richard Moore’s level par 144 and Harvey Hancock and Simon Buck with nett 145s. Joe Sutton, Stephen Forrest and Club Champion, James Morgan all completed 146 nett scores.
