The 2019 Summer Season for senior members of the Gorsley based Ross Golf Club was welcomed in by some fitting weather when 97 players took part in the opening midweek medal competition with the ‘yellow course’ playing especially long so that those who played to their handicaps were assured of the prizes.

This included the highly consistent 9 handicapper Peter Bennett whose gross 81 nett 72 medal score placed him in top spot on count-back, a winning position Peter has become used to enjoying as he also topped the 2018/19 Winter Pairs League Table accompanied by his playing partner Roger Alford with a maximum 16 points total from their best 8 matches played.

A few days previous the seniors saw the completion of their winter programme when 16 teams of 4 players each took part in a 16 holes Florida Scramble medal event, which proved memorable for 19 handicapper Tim Lewis. After deciding to undergo a Titleist Custom Fitting with the Club’s Head Professional Tim Hall, the subsequent investment in new clubs delivered the perfect return for Tim when his H1 Hybrid Club drive at the 12th pond hole found the cup to deliver his first ever hole in one.

It also helped his team, which included Geoff Baker, David Crocker and Jeremy Picton-Turbervill, to the second place prizes with the top spot occupied by David M Rees, Hugh Elliott, David Every and Peter Reynolds. Members at the lunch that followed were able to toast Tim’s achievement thanks to the wine that he generously provided to each table in true golfing tradition.See the full story in this week’s edition of the Ross Gazette, or subscribe to our online edition here
