The Gloucestershire County gross team championships were held last week at Ross-on-Wye Golf Club. 56 ladies represented 14 teams, and some of those taking part were from some of the most prestigious clubs in the county.
The course was in immaculate condition; the recent rain and warm weather give the club an unusual lushness for this time of the year. The greens were running true and slick, true competition style thanks to a new green “iron” that is being employed at the club.
The home team of Pat Watkins, Hannah Whibley, Kerry Welding and Helen Palmer came in with a gross score for their best three cards of 249, which tied them for first place with the team from Bristol and Clifton. Ross-on-Wye took the Championship this year on the fourth card, and won the Championship for the first time in 20 years.
