The 2019 Season of the North Gloucestershire Foursomes League fixtures, represented by the Men’s ‘A’, has begun with the Ross Team as 2018 Champions for the first time having completed a double as holders of the NGFL Cup which they retained having been winners in 2017.
To emulate these successes will be a tall order although with new personnel at the helm in Steve Price as non-playing Captain/Manager and Simon Mills as Vice Captain, the squad got off to an ideal start with a comfortable 5.5 points to 0.5 points home win when Lilley Brook GC from Cheltenham, promoted from Division 2 were the visitors.
The 2019 Ross squad can still boast a nice mix of youth and experience with Ross Junior Captains and teenagers Cam Haines, a 2 handicapper, and Harry Griffiths, a 4 handicapper, showing the way alongside the likes of Steve Wallbank, Alex Duncanson and former Club Champion James Morgan with Club Head Professional Tim Hall as coach. The points against Lilley Brook were achieved by 2/1 successes thanks to Jason Bolton/Cam Haines, Drew Davis/Robin Eckley, Simon Mills/Steve Wallbank with James Morgan/Danny Gear winning 5/4 and Ross Jenkins/Jayden Decloedt 4/3 and Ben Biscoe/Alex Duncanson involved in a halved match.
The Club’s Men’s B Team who play friendlies on the same day against the respective Division 1 Club’s can look forward to a meaningful and fun season having Mark Whitmore in charge. This was reflected against their Lilley Brook GC counterparts when they produced a creditable performance away from home, coming second in a very close match with just 1 point being the difference.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
