THE SOUTH Herefordshire Golf Club Ladies team celebrated a hard-fought triumph as they secured the Severn Vale League trophy after a thrilling conclusion to the season.
The title race was closely contested between the Upton Bishop-based South Herefordshire team and Forest Hills Golf Club, with the Coleford outfit holding the lead going into the final match.
The Herefordshire's ladies travelled to the challenging Cleeve Hill Golf Club near Cheltenham for the decisive encounter, needing to win all three matches to claim the league title.
But rising to the challenge, the team delivered a perfect performance, securing a hat-trick of wins and clinching the league title by a single point.
The golf club has praised the team’s determination and teamwork throughout the season.
A special thank you has been extended to the players who were instrumental in the victory, including Mary Sullivan, Tracy Price, Julie Davies, Jo Spiers, Becky Summers, Jill Wargen, Catriona Brown, Debbie Griffiths, Mai Bamford, Lynn Relph, Lynn Jones, Emma Breakspear, Michelle Clegg, and Kate Kerry.
A special mention also went to Jill Wargen, the outgoing match secretary, who has served in the role for six years.
Jill’s excellent team selections were instrumental in securing not only this year’s success but also the league title in 2019.
Jill now passes the baton to Jo Spiers, with the golf club wishing Jo the best of luck and confidence in continuing the team’s winning tradition.
