SOUTH Herefordshire Golf Club Ladies’ Section got its spring and summer season off to a flying start with a well-supported 9-hole Open Competition and coffee morning.
The event at the Upton Bishop course drew players from both the home club and neighbouring golf clubs across the region.
Glorious sunshine and a beautifully maintained course made for the perfect setting, and there was a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout the day.
The competition was organised by club proprietor Sarah Creighton, who was thanked by players for her time and effort in putting together such a successful event. Thanks also went to the greenkeeping team for their work keeping the course in top condition.
After play, Club President Lynn Relph presented prizes in the clubhouse. Gaynor Duvall took home the winner’s trophy for South Herefordshire, with Tracy Price finishing as runner-up. Tracy also claimed the 'nearest the pin' prize in what was a strong performance on home turf.
Among the visitors, Diana Hawkins from Rodway Golf Club had a day to remember—walking away with both the first visitor prize and the visitor 'nearest the pin' title.
A club spokesperson said: “It was a thoroughly enjoyable morning of golf and good company. These events are a great way to bring players together, especially those who may not have experienced our course before. We’re already looking forward to the next one in October.”
The 9-hole coffee morning competition marks the beginning of a busy season for the Ladies’ Section, who are also back in league action after winning the Severn Vale League last year.
The team started their new campaign strongly, winning their opening fixture and taking five of the six points available.
Representing South Herefordshire in that match were Jo Spiers, Deb Griffiths, Lynn Relph, Jill Wargen, Tracy Price and Becky Summers, each contributing to a confident team performance.
