As Ross Seniors Captain, Steve Martin, completes his term in office, he will be able to reflect upon a year representing considerable inward satisfaction, mixed with much outward achievement.
Certainly, Steve will be grateful to the Ross Club’s Aimpoint Putting Professional, Oli Leett, an integral part of the Tim Hall School of Golf team for his timely coaching, skills and training initiative. This resulted in 12 seniors, including Steve and his Vice Captain, David Price, embarking upon a two-day coaching initaitive, and a one night stay at the prestigious Vale of Glamorgan Golf Complex, near Cardiff. Steve added to the special occasion by winning the tour’s overall prize.
On his immediate return, Steve, along with event organisers Patrick Curtis and Tim Rigden and a host of seniors volunteers, were at the helm to welcome the 168 entrants, of which 152 were visitors from near and far, to the Ross Club’s Annual Men’s Seniors Pairs (Over 55) Open.
Peter Hayden and Geoffrey Slater from Chipping Sodbury Golf Club were the day’s top performers, with 44 points, and all sections of the Ross Club benefited. This included Prostate Cancer UK, the selected Charity of Ross Club Captain Kim Hampson, with the impressive raffles added profit of £521, taking the sum total above £3000.
Steve also emerges from his year with some valued bragging rights, as he joins Patrick Curtis in being the only Seniors Captain to lift the Claret Jug, after guiding their Round Robin seniors squads to victory.
