Ross Golf Club’s 14 year old member, Harry Griffiths, will be able to look back with considerable satisfaction following his latest golfing achievements, when he recently attended Gloucestershire Golf Unions 2017 annual presentation evening at the Kendleshire Golf Club in South Gloucestershire.

English professional golfer and Sky Sports pundit, John E Morgan, made three presentations to Harry for his notable successes at three different age levels in the Union’s Jeff Hall Trophy.

This blue-ribbon event, which attracts the top Junior players from all 40 affiliated Clubs across Gloucestershire, is intensive, spread throughout the summer season, requiring entrants to perform well in eight of the ten Junior Opens.

In his dedicated and disciplined manner and with some highly impressive play, Harry won Junior Opens at Stinchcombe Hill, Lansdown in Bath and he was runner-up at Brickhampton to total a massive 1267 points. This resulted in Harry topping the Under 14’s League table by miles. He was third in the under 16’s section and runner-up in the under 18’s section.

At the final Open at Brickhampton, when his golfing pal and fellow Ross Junior Vice Captain Liam Greig, denied Harry’s hat-trick of wins by a whisker, it could be argued that this effectively prevented Harry from winning all three sections outright, which would have been quite remarkable.

Some of the Honours Boards in the Ross-on-Wye Clubhouse are graced with his name after his winning of the Bradley Court, and George and Margaret Lane Cups and this has brought him recognition through selection for the South West England trials at under 16s level and for the Welsh Boys under 14’s squad when he starred, achieving eighth place in a competition at Cradoc GC in Brecon.

Harry is a real credit to himself and after leaving school he is aiming to further his ambition and qualifications in golf through the locally based Hartpury College range of development programmes.
