Members of Ross Golf Club are delighted and proud to witness youngsters, who are being coached and ’continuously improved’ through their Club’s Head Professional Tim Hall and his ’School of Golf’ structure making the headlines at the highest levels.

It has been a marvellous week for teenager Kate Bibby who won the prestigious West of England Girls Championships held at Burnham and Berrow Golf Club in Somerset. Kate, now a scratch player, shot a 3 over par round to take the title. It was her first win at National level, impressing onlookers who included England selectors and crucially, the event carried key world ranking points.

Kate is being educated and lives in Dubai to which she now returns and spends her summers in Ross with her Mum and Grandparents to take advantage of the Ross Club’s training facilities, along with her younger brother Josh who is himself an accomplished golfer with a 7 handicap. Many Rossonians will remember their Father, Tim Bibby, now a pilot based in Dubai, from the days when Tim was a highly accomplished Tennis player with the Ross Tennis Centre.

Equally, 10 year old Cameron Hughes enjoyed another exciting sporting experience recently when he qualified to return to the home of golf at St Andrews for the second successive year to play 2 rounds in the Wee Wonders British Championships. In the Boys 9-10 group Cameron shot a combined 168 total on the Strathtyrum Course to finish 20th in a year in which his handicap has tumbled from 37 to 21, having been 46 when he started his coaching relationship with the Ross Club in 2016. Cameron, an all round athlete, lives in Monmouth and is a pupil at The Grange Preparatory School and clearly many more memorable sporting occasions await this talented youngster.

Meanwhile, 21 year old former John Kyrle High School pupil and Ross Club Juniors Captain, Niall Powell reports promisingly from across the pond as Niall begins the next stage of his golfing career at the New Mexico State University in America, with a 4th place finish in his first Amateur Tournament with a combined 138 total being 6 under gross par.
