60 Seniors Members of Ross Golf Club made the most of their Christmas Competition and lunch recently when the severe frost tested them to the full in their adjustment to play effective winter golf. Peter Shaw performed expertly a few days previously in the Club's main Christmas competition to enable him to take home a major prize, and he was able to repeat the exercise in fine style. On this occasion, his 40 stableford points over the 16 holes competition saw his name at the top of the final score-sheet, and this could mean that his circumstances will influence the Club's Handicap Committee when the end of year review and adjustment for members takes place. Certainly Peter has enjoyed a very successful year and probably his best ever.
Don Punnett must have been aware that he was in contention for a major prize, after having 2 birdies in his first 3 holes and adding another later in his highly consistent round. Ultimately he had to settle for second place, finishing on 40 points as well but just missing out on count-back. In his performance, Peter Landau, now a 21 handicapper, must have felt that he was recapturing his glory days when he regularly tamed the Club's demanding tree-lined course as a single figure handicapper. Overall his 39 points score, winning him the 3rd place prize on count back, will have been very pleasing for him.
