Ross Golf Club's Annual Autumn Scratch and handicap is a major event in its calendar and attracted 126 members and the excellent course conditions were reflected in some fine scoring particularly in the gross scoring category. James Morgan who has a 2 handicap and 5 handicapper and Ross Juniors Captain 16 year old Niall Powell each dropped just 1 shot to par in their gross 73 medal rounds, and this meant that the Scratch title had to be decided in a subsequent 18 holes play-off. James's experience and consistency proved just too good for his young opponent and his gross 77 medal round against Niall's gross 81 enabled James to attend the Annual Presentation evening a few days later to collect his deserved prize. There was a 74 for Steve Wallbank, a 75, for Wes Ralph with a 76 for Keith Crawford, and 77's for Arthur Cartwright, and Jamie Wilde and 78's for Tony Howells and Ross Jenkins. In the nett category the top prize went to 21 handicapper Kingsley Matthews with a nett 67 and other good scores were recorded by Lee Cartwright and 15 year old Max Coleman with nett 70's. What was highly impressive though was the continued excellent form of James Berry who recorded a nett 69 in a year when James started the season with a 18 handicap and which is now down to 12, and James was also in attendance at the Presentation evening to celebrate his recent winning of the Centenary Cup.
