It has been a long 18 year journey for the Welsh Professional Golfer, Becky Morgan, who grew up in Ross-on-Wye and was educated in Monmouth. She was introduced to golf when she was 12-years-old by her grandfather at Ross Golf Club. Years ago, Becky was preparing herself to become a Ladies Professional golfer, which she achieved in the year 2000.
Becky achieved her first major tour title recently. She did this when she recently won the Hero Women’s Indian Open. The former student at Monmouth School for Girls had previously achieved 22 top 10 finishes, tied for second spot at the Indian Open and was runner-up in the 2001 French Open.
Becky’s impressive 7 under par 281 score put her two shots ahead of her nearest rivals, after she had tied for 2nd place at the same Indian venue in 2015. This was with her runner-up finish in the 2001 French Open being the closest she had come to a major success.
Becky chose to dedicate her career to the US based Ladies PGA Tour in Florida, where she successfully still enjoys playing at the top-level against players some of whom are half her age.
While Becky now lives in the United States, she often returns to the Wye Valley to visit her family. In addition to this, for the past two years Becky has found time to catch up with Ross Golf Club’s Putting Professional and Aimpoint specialist, Oli Leett, and they are also in regular contact via face-time, which works really well.
Becky was kind enough to send Oli a short testimonial in recognition of her achievement which read: “The last few years working with Oli has really helped to improve my putting. I am technically a better putter and also a better greens reader. We always have good fun while working together and Oli’s passion for improvement is really helpful.”
Oli was appointed at the Gorsley based Ross Club shortly after the award winning Tim Hall was appointed Head Professional in 2012, and he has helped the ‘Tim Hall School of Golf’ to achieve brand status, providing golf coaching for all abilities. With energy and dedication, the School leads forward thinking instruction that works to strengthen continuous improvement.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
