Ross took a late friendly fixture away to Minchinhampton at the weekend, and came away comprehensive winners with a score of 24-55.
For the first 20 minutes, Minchinhampton had a vast amount of possession, but were not able to breach Ross’ line.
Ross’ scoring started with a try from captain Tom Muldowney, which scrum-half converted. Soon after, centre TC Leach scampered through, but the extras were missed.
The Ross scrum was firm throughout the game and from such a scrum, the ball was put through the Ross hands for winger Ryan Keating to score. Flanker, Joe Muldowney was next to score when he superbly pounced on a Minchinhampton error, which Powell then converted.
The second half saw much of the same, with Ross drawing men and passing before the tackle, time and time again. Keating got his second on 50 minutes, which fly half Chay Brine converted. Mitchenhampton never gave up the ghost and scored a couple of tries, but Ross’ No 8 Dan Goud powered his way over the try line after picking from the base of a scrum. Powell again converted by drop kicking it over the posts.
The last try fell on the final whistle from another solo try from full-back Tom Muldowney.
It was an excellent all round performance and difficult to pick a man of the match, but in the end it went to second row Dave Mince who was everywhere on the park and led by example.
This week, Ross 2nds are at home to Dowty in the league.
