Leaving Ross in the early hours of Saturday, December 1st in torrential rain, Ross Rowing Club’s Juniors joined 275 other crews at Saul Junction, where the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal and Stroudwater Canal meet, for the 2.5km Wycliffe Small Boats Head.
Ignoring the vicious head wind, the rain cleared and the high technical performance of Ross Juniors shone through with silver placings for Tom Clatworthy and Charlie Pope in the 14 year old boys double event and Yasmin Howe, who at 13 was competing in the girls 15 year old single scull category.
Division 2 did nothing to dampen spirits with wins for George Aubrey and Charlie Manning in the 18 year old boys double event, Emily Hermon and Abbie Price in their 16 year old girls double, Elic Wales and Oliver Billington in the 15 years old boys double and Tom in the 14 years old boys single scull, with Charlie getting the silver.
Further silvers were awarded to Emily Hermon and Hannah Goodwin, both in singles events, and Jessie Punn and Yasmin in a double.
14 events were entered out of which 10 medal placings were achieved. Top results and performances all round with some high expectations for the future of the 13 year old girls quad crew, who showed great form on their first outing.
