British Science Week was celebrated at Gorsley Goffs Primary School with fun activities to increase the pupils’ interest in science subjects.

On Wednesday, March 16th, the whole school celebrated British Science Week, which runs from the 11th-20th March, by having fun with the STEM subjects- Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Pupils made tower structures using spaghetti and marshmallows, tin foil, straws and newspaper. They found out how tall they could build a tower with each material, and then tried to balance an easter egg on top of their structures.

In line with this experiment, the students were also taught about the architecture of different major tower structures around the world, and compared their own towers to them.

Gil Fair, who organised the events to celebrate British Science Week at Gorsley Goffs school, told the Ross Gazette: ‘I think it is very important for schools to celebrate British Science Week, because science stimulates curiosity of the mind.’

Gorsley Goffs also holds a weekly Science Club where children partake in fun science based activities, such as making bath bombs and melting chocolate to make Easter eggs. The school is pleased that an equal amount of male and female pupils show interest in STEM subjects, with an equal number voluntarily attending the school’s Science club.
