A VERY short entry of cattle sold to a good trade at this week’s livestock market in Ross-on-Wye on Monday, August 10.

Auctioneers RG and RB Williams report that there were no superstars in the entry, but better sorts were selling up to 352p per kilogramme.

The auctioneer Richard Williams stated that more cattle could have readily been sold to advantage.

The overall average price of finished cattle was £2,153. The top vendor was DM & CS Andrews of Glen Court Farm, Llanllowell.

A reasonable entry of lambs sold to a strong trade. There were plenty of half-meated lambs forward which reduced the overall average. However, heavier lambs sold particularly well selling up to £200. The overall average was £149 which is £3 per head in front of last year.

The top vendors were N & I Bevan of Trothlands Farm, St Weonards; WM Watkins & Sons of Upper House Farm, Grosmont and ET & V Morris & Sons of Moat Farm, Orcop.

A short entry of ewes sold to an excellent trade with better sorts up to £185 with an overall average of cull ewes being £152.

The top vendors were J & R Davies Farming of Glenleith Farm, Beavans Hill and L Alexander and P Wellon of Southview, Moat Lane.

Aside from the regular Monday livestock sale in Ross there will be an Innovis Tup Sale on Thursday, August 20 at 2pm; a farm dispersal sale on Behalf of Messrs Collins on Saturday August 22 at 11am and a farm dispersal sale on behalf of Messers Andrews on Saturday, September 19 at 11am.

A sale of store cattle will take place on Thursday, September 24 from 11.15am.
