Several residents at Ross Court are Welsh and have very fond memories of Cardiff Bay.

They recall a time when the docks had been some of the busiest in the world, and their decline after the war. Janet Auty, Manager of Brighterkinds Ross Court was delighted to realise a number of residents’ wishes recently, with a trip to Cardiff Bay.

A picnic on the waterfront was followed by a guided tour of the Assembly Building, an introduction to the Assembly Room as well as an insight into the structure of the building itself. After tea and Welsh cakes the group was shown the Weeping Poppies display from the Tower of London.

Then there was time for a moment of personal reflection.

As well as frequent outings, Mrs Auty encourages a wide range of social activities, this month’s focus is music. Members of the Monmouth U3A Recorder Group, under the instruction of Ann Marshall, were very welcome visitors. Ann introduced everyone to the enormous range of recorders, including Wendy Reynolds playing the Contrabass Recorder. The group delighted residents with a wide range of music including favourites such as ‘In an English Country Garden’ and ‘Land of my Fathers’. Ross Court resident Win Reynolds told everyone how much she had enjoyed hearing her daughter play her extraordinary instrument.
