GRANT funding totalling £5,529 have been donated to local groups, organisations and one sporting individual by Ross-on-Wye Town Council.
At last week’s community, markets and tourism sub-committee meeting, councillors approved a grant of £1,000 to Herefordshire Headway, a charity that is dedicated to supporting adults with an acquired brain injury and their families.
The grant will go to help establish a hub at the Larruperz Centre which will be held on a bi-weekly basis.
The Ross Preschool Playgroup will benefit from £329 which will go towards replacing the organisation’s tablet computer.
The Ross Penyard Singers applied for £250, which was granted, that will enable them to organise a charity concert that will raise funding for St Mary’s Church Spire Appeal and benefit @ The Hub with its work within the local community.
A grant of £950 was approved for the Ross-on-Wye and District Community Association which will go towards providing a new CCTV system at the Larruperz Centre.
Ross Juniors Under 14 football team will benefit from a grant of £1,000 that will provide funding towards the team’s forthcoming football tour of Spain.
Ruth Forbes who took up the sport of kettlebell as part of helping her rebuild her life both physically and mentally has benefitted from a grant of £1,000 towards the travel costs involved by competing in the International Kettlebell Marathon Federation World Championships which is being held in New York in May.
Kettlebell is a strength endurance sport where you lift for long sets often 30 minutes, without putting the kettlebell down. It’s a very technical and demanding sport.
Previous grant recipients told the council how their organisations got on. Ross Town Band said that its grant helped them organise a Christmas concert while Ross Tennis Centre explained that its grant of £1,000 was used to replace the flooring in the pavilion’s toilet.
Ross Choristers said that its grant of £549 went towards purchasing a new keyboard.
