Ross Juniors U10 Colts took to the field last Saturday ready to play in near perfect footballing conditions. The early news was that illness had hit the Colts team with three players out. This meant Colts played with only six players, against the seven on field and two substitutes of Leominster.
The start was not good for the Colts. On their first attack, Leominster made a good break and the looping ball went over the Colts keeper in to the goal.
Unperturbed, all of the six man Ross team played with commitment and made some good attacks and Ben in goal made a number of fine saves. Alex and Harry at the back made some vital interceptions and kept the ball out, despite being outnumbered.
Following a Leominster goal kick, William passed the ball to Alfie who tested the keeper. Owen took the resultant corner and Alex put the ball just over. Ross did really well the rest of the half and if football matches were won on commitment alone, Ross would have been well clear at half time.
Ben continued to make outstanding saves. A long ball out from him went to Alfie who showed intricate skills but the ball went wide as the crowd sighed. Lots of pressure from Leominster eventually resulted in them slamming home a second goal. Ben then made an excellent double save, assisted by the cross bar but tiredness was starting to take effect and a good cross was expertly deflected in for Leominster to score again.
Ross Juniors Under 10 Colts had done the club proud. With only six players available, they had worked hard, been totally committed and almost came away with a result. Tiredness in the end made the score line look much worse than their performance deserved. Well done Ben, Alex, Harry, Alfie, Owen and William. Your effort and commitment made everyone proud to be supporters of Ross Juniors U10 Colts.
