FORTY two teams and 64 individuals took on the 59km Rogue Runs Wyedean Relay and Ultra along the river from Ross to Chepstow on Sunday, incorporating hills, mud, trails, woodland, sunshine and downpours.

MonRoss Trailblazers 1 (4.32.57) stormed home second to Parc Bryn Bach in the relay (4.12.42), followed by Caerleon Gladiators (4.42.38) in third.

Blazers were Calum McLeish, Tom Walmsley, Faye Johnson who was third in Leg 3, Gavin Jones second in Leg 4, Jake McBride, Elle Lumley, and Kieron Brown, who won the final leg.

MonRoss 3 (Barry Davies, Martin Turner, Andrew Stephens, Richard Foster who won Leg 4, Emily Harrison, Rob Potter and Trina Sami-Brown) also took the mixed veteran title in sixth (4.55.25).

And Blazers 2 (Kate Shuttlewood, Danie Ward, Ness Ward, Martin Woodhead, Graham Bell, Andrew Wright and Sophie Williams) came home 11th (5.18.37).

The legs were Ross Bandstand - Kerne Bridge - Symonds Yat - Monmouth - Brockweir Bridge - Wyndcliffe car park – Chepstow Bandstand.

Spirit of Monmouth also had three teams racing, with Team Spirit 12th (5.19.10), Spirit Mixers 17th (5.29.05) and Double Spirits 18th (5.29.39).

Fastest Ultra individual was Hereford Couriers’ Will Morris in 5.36.10 with fastest woman Molly Grace Waddington second overall in 5.51.26.

Blazers’ duo Grant White and Rachael Aitken ran together in the Ultra finishing in 7.59 in 20th and 21st, with the latter placing third fastest woman.

Meanwhile, Blazers have wished good luck to Kieron Brown and Laura Lelievre, who are taking on the Great Silk Run in Tajikistan this week – a brutal, beautiful 200-mile, 10-day journey across Central Asia.

They’ll be experiencing nomadic exploration running through stunning landscapes along the historic Silk Road.
