A VILLAGE’S Summer Shindig, Dog Show and Fete proved to be very popular attracting a fantastic turnout for a lively afternoon of fun and festivities.
The Much Marcle event was organised by eight dedicated villagers who a created a fete that was packed with entertainment for all ages, including a variety of stalls and games such as tombola, archery, hook-a-duck, skittles, redneck golf, a human fruit machine and a plant stall.
Dog lovers came out in force to take part in the popular dog show, which featured six well-supported classes: Best Six Legs, The Dog the Judge Would Most Like to Take Home, Best Veteran, Cutest Puppy, Best Junior Handler, and Dog That Looks Most Like Its Owner; all judged by Carol Coode, a recently retired Crufts judge.

A highlight of the afternoon was the tug of war, which drew enthusiastic participation from both children and adults, cheered on by lively crowds.
Homemade cakes and tea were served in the Memorial Hall, particularly appreciated when a shower arrived just as the dog show concluded.
Fortunately, the weather did little to dampen the spirits of those enjoying this warm, family-friendly community event, made possible by the hard work and talents of local groups and volunteers.
The fete was no ordinary fund raiser as a project to build a new shop, post office, and café in the village is ongoing following the closure of Much Marcle Stores in 2019 after the previous owners made the decision to retire.
Villagers’ fundraising efforts have since secured a site, diagonally opposite the old village stores and have obtained planning permission.
The project has received strong community backing, with 270 becoming shareholders. Over £110,000 has been raised so far.
The team is hopeful the new facility will be ready to welcome everyone to this much needed community social hub in 2027.
